Q. What is the Wildlife Conservation Corps?
The Wildlife Conservation Corps is one of the three volunteer units administered by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Volunteer Wildlife Conservation Corps members work with regular full-time division staff members such as wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians.
Q. Who can become a member of the Wildlife Conservation Corps?
Anyone who is 18 years of age or older and who is willing to devote volunteer time to the various programs of wildlife management and research can become a member. Wildlife Conservation Corps members must be able to provide their own transportation to their assigned work unit.
Q. What type of help is needed and where may I volunteer my help?
Wildlife Conservation Corps volunteers are involved in projects such as waterfowl banding, shore bird nest surveys, fishing instruction, endangered species monitoring, permit sales, data entry and office assistance.
Wildlife Conservation Corps volunteers usually report for duty to a division field office. However, when involved in field activities, you may be asked to report to a study site. Volunteers are needed throughout the state, therefore volunteers may find a greater variety of activities outside their home county.
Q. When are volunteers needed?
Wildlife Conservation Corps volunteers are needed throughout the year for a variety of projects. The greatest number of opportunities for volunteers take place during the regular work week, usually during the normal working day. The division will do its utmost to provide opportunities to volunteers with limited available time.
Q. As a WCC volunteer, what is expected of me?
To remain active in the WCC program, individuals performing any number of hours of service each year must submit monthly time sheets. WCC members, while serving as volunteers, are considered representatives of the Division of Fish and Wildlife and are expected to conduct themselves in the same manner as full-time employees.
