Scope of Eligibility: Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.

Description: Under the supervision of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisory official in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Environmental Protection, performs various duties involved in fish and game propagation, growth and health maintenance, resource inventories, fish and game distribution, user surveys, habitat management and performs routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds; does other related work as required.

Specific to the Position: Assist with responses to black bear-human conflict situations using traps, chemical immobilization equipment, and firearms; assist the black bear project with research trapping; assist the furbearer project with data collection and surveys; assist with data entry.

Note: These are not Law Enforcement positions. Selected candidates will be required to receive training through the police academy or similar. As a result, they will be required to undergo a background check, drug test, physical exam, and psychological evaluation. Selected candidates must be proficient with the use of firearms, and will be required to obtain a NJ Firearm Hunting License and a NJ Firearms Purchaser Identification Card, if they do not already possess these. These positions will undergo random drug testing.

Preferred Skill Set: Ability to work in all types of weather and terrain; knowledge of wildlife damage control mitigation; knowledge of firearms; knowledge of trapping techniques.


Experience: One (1) year of experience in routine wildlife or fisheries management activities including habitat developments, maintenance, propagation and/or conservation. SPECIAL NOTE: Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.

License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. Appointee may be required to obtain a valid New Jersey boat operator's license.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
