Scope of Eligibility: Open to permanent employees in a competitive title in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, who meet the requirements below.

Description: Under the general supervision of a Supervising Biologist, Wildlife Management, or other supervisory official in the Division of Fish and Wildlife in the Department of Environmental Protection, plans, organizes, coordinates, performs, and supervises work relating to biological research and data analysis, environmental impact reviews, development of wildlife management programs and/or education of the public on specific wildlife issues; supervises staff and work activities; prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff; does other related duties as required. NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

Specific to the Position: Supervises lower level biological staff along with technicians and seasonal staff; oversees the collection of harvest data and disease sampling. Analyzes data to make recommendations for changes in deer hunting regulations. Does outreach with communities, counties, and individuals experiencing deer damage. Provides information to the public, sportsmen and women, and other interested parties. Works in cooperation with local, State and Federal government agencies.

Preferred Skill Set: Experience in deer management to include deer harvesting and report preparation; strong organizational skills; good communication skills with internal and external constituents.


Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Biological Sciences, or a Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Management with a major concentration in Fisheries Science and/or Wildlife Science.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in wildlife biology and/or the development of wildlife management programs. NOTE: A Master's degree in Wildlife Management or a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
