Completing the Child Support Certification is required when purchasing a hunting or fishing license or related permit.
The certification must be completed annually. Under the Child Support Program Improvement Act, N.J.S.A. 2A:17-56.7a, et seq. (pdf, 215kb), the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife is required to obtain this information, just as it is required to obtain Social Security Numbers. The Division realizes the imposition this has placed upon our constituents, our license agents and our staff, and understands that individuals have concerns regarding the collection of this information. (Individuals with questions regarding the status of their child support obligations should contact their local probation department.) In order to address these concerns, the Divsion worked with the Office of the Attorney General, the Administrative Offices of the Court and State Information Technology staff to develop a convenient, efficent and secure way of meeting our obligations under this law. As a result, those wishing to purchase a license can be certified on-line.
The certification process can be completed online prior to a license or permit purchase.
First time license buyers can establish a customer account and be assigned a life-time Conservation Identification Number (CID#) on the site. Upon completion of the Child Support Certification licenses can be purchased online or at a license agent. The certification is good until December 31 of the year it is completed. The process of certification must be repeated each calendar year.
